charlogo.gif (15398 bytes)The Charity Challenge of Champions Tennis Tournament began in 1992 as an effort to raise funding for the Northwest Arkansas Crisis Intervention Center. It was determined that the "Challenge" would be an annual fall weekend event, focusing on tennis, with the Pinnacle Country Club as the designated site. As the Crisis Center was a United Way participant, special permission was obtained from United Ways in Northwest Arkansas to hold the event during their designated "black-out" period, with the agreement that some overage money would be divided among the United Ways that support the Center.

The "founding" sponsors were: Ambassador Cards, American Greetings, Dow Brands, Gillette and Lever Brothers. Additional income was received from a silent auction, clinics, t-shirts, ticket and program sales. Our goal for 1992 was to raise $30,000; actual amount raised was nearly $65,000.
